Celebrate the Spring Equinox with me, on this land I call home learning the basics of cutting and rooting basket willow for your garden spaces.

The name of basket willow is actually somewhat limiting to the small sun and water loving varieties of shrub like willow. Of course, the different colours and malleability of the branches make them a perfect material with which to weave baskets. However, they also make the perfect plants for creating windbreaks, living fences and plant supports in the garden.

This gathering will take place both outside (weather permitting) and inside. First we will harvest from the 5 different species of willow growing here in my gardens. They include both yellow and red corkscrew willow, Hutchinson’s yellow, Rubykins and Americana. We will then proceed inside where I will show you the process of rooting in water as well as provide information on how to keep them going until it comes time to plant them outside in your gardens.
